Dr. Maya Pirok earned her VMD in small animal medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. Growing up in Los Angeles, she graduated with honors from University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Through post-graduate work at the Animal Dental Training Center, Dr. Pirok strengthened her skills in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery— skills and techniques she now teaches to other veterinary professionals in the area.
She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Delaware Valley Veterinary Medical Association. Dr Pirok has a special interest in soft-tissue surgery, but feels that the principles of medicine are best implemented through a wellness program of interventional care as a way to develop a healthy lifestyle for your pet.
It was during her own wellness initiative that Dr. Pirok met her future husband, Brad. They met training for the Philadelphia marathon while she was in graduate school. They now live in Old City with their three children and Bicamouth, an 8 year old domestic short haired cat that she rescued while in Veterinary school. When she is not working, Dr. Pirok enjoys long-distance running, teaching her children piano, and skiing in Vermont.
