Pet Dental Services

Studies show that 70% of dogs and 80% of cats have some degree of dental disease by age three. If left untreated, continued accumulation of tartar and bacteria can affect the health of your pet's mouth as well as become a dangerous source of infection, impacting your pet's kidneys and heart function.

Pet Dental Care & Hygiene

Northern Liberties Veterinary Center provides the most comprehensive, contemporary dental care and oral surgery available. We offer digital x-ray technology and state-of-the-art dental prophylaxis equipment. We use only the best dental health materials. We provide a local, long-acting nerve block to every dog and cat that requires extractions. This maximizes patient comfort while allowing us to use very light levels of anesthesia.

Home Dental Care for Your Pet

Dental care is not something that can be left to periodic visits with your veterinarian. Because plaque buildup—the primary cause of poor oral health—is a gradual process occurring throughout the life of your pet, it is important to practice good home dental care. As with humans, this means regular tooth brushing and in some cases additional steps may be necessary.

Our staff will show you the proper method for caring for your pet’s teeth as well as help you select the most effective dental products for your pets dental hygiene.

You should also be able to recognize the signs of poor oral health. If you notice any of the following you may want to contact our veterinarians:

  1. Persistent bad breath
  2. Tartar or plaque buildup (ask your veterinarian how to identify these)
  3. A yellowish-brown crust of plaque on the teeth near the gum line
  4. Red and swollen gums
  5. Pain or bleeding when your pet eats or when the mouth or gums are touched
  6. Pawing at the mouth
  7. Decreased appetite or difficulty eating
  8. Loose or missing teeth
